Ok so maybe I haven't been doing what I set out to do this semester. I've been a bit lazy with my writing and haven't really tried to focuss on talking to you guys a lot. So, as you may have noticed they are lacking in the improvements of my diction and sytnax. So I want to ask you guys a few questions. What do you do to "spice up" your blog in relations to keeping the audience interested? And how do you change up the pace of you writing while making it flow? I know that I get a bit boring with my writing and I just use the average amount of sentece length or I don't get all fancy with my words. So I just wanted to see if any of your tactics could help me.
I have not been reading as much as I would like to be recently. At all. I love to read but I just haven't been able to find something that screams READ ME this year. I wanted to leave my comfort zone and try new genres but I just bore of them withing a day and put it down forever. I might just go back to dystopian for the rest of the year and try again in the summer. Who knows, maybe I'll find one that holds my attention longer that a milisecond. Well anyways guys, I'm sorry i haven't been the best blogger but hopefully I will be able to grow more as a writer and reader in the next month and through my career.
I tend to vary my diction as I go without really trying, but my suggestion would be to try and use larger words in your vocabulary and blend it into casual diction to mix your sentences while still being relatable. I really liked how you engaged the reader in the beginning with the questions by the way.
ReplyDeleteSyntax and diction are the problem areas for me as well. For me I like to connect the diction to the voice of the piece and see if vocabulary words work. I like how I felt like you were talking to us and that you talked about a relatable topic for most of us high school students.
ReplyDeleteIn the varying diction and syntax department, I usually start by using different sentence beginnings, and finding different ways to get a message across. I also try to use different terms for the same thing, so I'm talking about the same subject but not feeling like I'm repeating myself. Good job with incorporating your voice into this post and nice picture haha.
ReplyDeleteWith diction, I always try to keep a casual/conversational tone to make the reader feel comfortable in my writing. But when I'm analyzing a part of the book, I would try to incorporate more formal diction. Syntax is a little more difficult. Always try to vary your sentence lengths to make it more interesting. Blogging is something we have more freedom with. Adding some sarcasm and something that will make your reader laugh is the best way to keep their interest.
ReplyDeleteI can really relate to you because I've also had troubles coming up with new and interesting ways to write and also I haven't been able to find a really great book. But I have to say, this blog post is very good and I can really see a difference from some of the previous blogs that you've written. Keep up the great writing!
ReplyDeleteI can really relate! Writing is hard when you forcefully think about adding syntax and other things. Great reflection!
